    Wolford Mountain Reservoir has around 1,550 acres of water which is used for a range of recreational activities. Located 6 mi (9 km) north of Kremmling, the areas supports fishing, boating, hiking, mountain biking, camping, cross-country skiing and much more.

    Williams Fork Reservoir

    Supplying water to Denver since 1959, the Williams Fork Reservoir is also used for a range of recreational activities throughout the year. The water is stocked with fish and has boat ramps for visitors to use. Camping and picnicking are also popular activities, with areas set up around the reservoir. Ice fishing, hunting and sailboarding are also permitted during select times of the year.

    Steamboat Lake

    Located 26 mi (42 km) from Steamboat Springs in one of Colorado's state parks, Steamboat Lake offers a gamut of activities. Actually a 1,053-acre reservoir, the water here can be used for boating, water skiing and fishing, swimming. A marina is located at the lake, offering boat and dock rentals, fuel, snacks, firewood and other supplies.

    The Arkansas River flows through Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Beginning in the Rockies of Colorado, near Leadville, the Arkansas River is a popular place for whitewater rafting. Connecting to the Mississippi River near Napolean, Arkansas, the Arkansas River runs for about 1450 mi (2334 km) and is the fourth longest river in the United States.

    Turquoise Lake
    Turquoise Lake was named for the discovery of this semiprecious rock in the area. Used as a reservoir since 1962, it is located west of Leadville and takes up 1,800 acres of surface area. Visitors can enjoy picnicking, camping, hiking, and fishing. At 10,000 ft in elevation, prepare for cool weather even in the summer. To get there, follow Harrison Avenue to West Sixth Street. Make a right at County Road 4 at the "T" and drive to County Road 9, which circles around the lake.

    Lake Granby
    Covering roughly 7,250 acres, Lake Granby is a popular fishing lake in the northern Rockies of Colorado. A substantial campground is found along the shores, providing 260 campsites and boat launches. There are also several marinas for those wanting to rent a boat or needing a boat slip. Activities at the lake include power boating, fishing and camping. The lake is located in the Arapaho National Forest, which has many of its own features.

    Dillon Reservoir/Lake Dillon

    Located within the Rocky Mountains of Northern Colorado, Lake Dillon provides a wide range of year-round activities, including sightseeing, hiking, sailboarding and fishing. Motorboats and sail boats share the waters with canoes, kayaks and inflatable boats. Fishing is another popular year round pastime, with ice fishing allowed in the winter. Boat rentals and tours are available at the on-site marina.

    Colorado River
    Originating in northern Colorado, north of Grand Lake, the Colorado River is one of the United States' major waterways. Totaling 1,470 mi (2,352 km), the river spans a number of states – Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona and California – before emptying into the Gulf of California in Mexico. Until 1921 the river was known as the Grand River and was then renamed at the request of the State of Colorado.

    Shadow Mountain Reservoir
    Located in Grand Lake village, Shadow Mountain Lake is a large man-made lake used to control the water level in nearby Grand Lake. Acting as a reservoir, people can enjoy camping, boating and fishing on and around the water. It takes up 1,346 acres, stretching down to the Rocky Mountain National Park area.
