    Steamboat Lake State Park

    Located beneath Hahn's Peak, Steamboat Lake State Park is rich in scenery and activities. Various facilities are available to visitors, including a 188-site campground, cabins, a swimming beach, a marina and numerous trails. In the winter, the cabins are still open to guests who want to ice fish, cross-country ski and snowmobile.

    San Isabel National Forest

    San Isabel National Forest encompasses more than one-million acres of diverse lands, from jagged mountain peaks to grasslands. A range of activities are supported, including camping, hiking, fishing, mountaineering and rock climbing. Inside, find well-known peaks of Sawatch Range, the Spanish Peak and Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Colorado's highest mountain, Mt. Elbert, is also found in San Isabel.

    Stage Coach State Park

    Bountiful activities are found at Stagecoach State Park near Oak Creek. Featuring a 780-acre reservoir with a marina, visitors can enjoy access to boating and fishing. Two trails are frequented by hikers and mountain bikers: Elk Run Trail on the south shore and Wetlands Trail near the inlet. In the winter the trails are used by cross-country skiers and snowshoers.

    Dillon Nature Preserve

    Visitors have access to this area through a walking or biking recreation path from Dillon or Summit Cove. Two trail loops are available, where visitors pass through meadows, forests and rock outcrops and scenic overviews.

    Sylvan Lake State Park

    Sylvan Lake State Park provides hours of entertainment for anglers, campers, and hikers. Located near Eagle, the park boasts a 42-acre lake stocked with trout. In the winter the lake can be used for ice-fishing and many trails are open for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. A small campground with 44 sites, eight cabins and three yurts are on-site to accommodate visitors.

    Peninsula Recreation Area

    The Peninsula Recreation Area is located half a mile south of Frisco and boasts facilities to entertain guests. Numerous trails wind through the forests and the shoreline of Lake Dillon, which are frequented by hikers, cross-country skiers and bikers. Other services include a campground, picnic shelters, a skateboard park and grassy fields to play a range of sports.

    Vail Alpine Gardens

    At 8,200 ft (2,500 m) above sea level, the Vail Alpine Gardens are one of the highest botanical gardens in the world. Originally named the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, the area sees more than 600,000 visitors each year who view the various high-elevation plants planted here. The area was established in 1988 and has been growing in size each year.

    Nottingham Park

    Nottingham Park is Avon's main public park, featuring a lake, a cabin, sports areas, trails and picnic areas with barbeques. The lake welcomes swimming in the summer and ice skating in the winter. Skate rentals are available at the cabin from 12pm to 8pm daily.

    Dillon Marina Park and Amphitheatre
    Overlooking Lake Dillon, Marina Park and Amphitheater provides a variety of recreational facilities, including a connection to a 50-mile (80-km) paved trail between Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain, Silverthorne and Frisco. Other facilities include picnic areas, fishing and boating access at the marina and a playground. The amphitheater is used for various outdoor performances.

    Routt National Forest

    From picnicking to river rafting, the Routt National Forest provides visitors with a range of activities. Spanning the Colorado-Wyoming border, the park contains popular destinations, such as the Steamboat Lake State Park, a bounty of scenic drives and numerous lakes and rivers for fishing.     Rocky Mountain National Park

    Established in 1915, this park showcases the rugged beauty of the Rocky Mountains, boasting peaks that rise above 14,000 ft (4,267 m). The park is situated in northern Colorado, northwest of Denver.
